About this Project:

I used APP Lab to create the College Majors & Incomes app that provides students with access to a variety of college majors, incomes and statistics, major’s category, the median/earnings, employed (the amount of graduates with that degree who are employed), unemployed (the amount of graduates with that degree who are unemployed), women (the total number of female graduates with that specific major), men (the total number of male graduates with that specific major), and the total number of US graduates with that specific major, that they can use to apply to their future field of study and career path. This app acts as an application list of which college the student wants to attend in the future by setting key factors to consider when applying to any college or university. To continue, these are key ideas to consider when choosing a college major and I have seen students who are applying to college but are unsure of what to major in which delays their time of reaching their career path. Also, my project works with the key events, selections, iterations, and sequence within the blocks of code that was written to fulfill this app and for the app to work effectively as shown in the video in the previous slide. Also, my app allows students or the user to add their favorite or desired college/universities to their college list and they can use this list to scroll through the different colleges they have in mind and further apply to those colleges on their actual college applications.

More About this Project

In the image with two screens, screen #2 labeled "Screen 2(College Generator)" displays the key information that a students needs in order to find the right college and this app gives students an idea of what to understand when picking a college major relevant to their choice of career, such information included in screen #2 are the college major name, major’s category, the median/earnings, employed (the amount of graduates with that degree who are employed), unemployed (the amount of graduates with that degree who are unemployed), women (the total number of female graduates with that specific major), men (the total number of male graduates with that specific major), and the total number of US graduates with that specific major. Additionally, screen #3 on the right labeled "Screen 3(College List)" displays a text area where students can write the name of the colleges/ universities they want to apply to and attend and they can use the list to scroll through the list and find the right college with that best suits their goals and what the student wants to pursue in the future.

This is a wonderful idea! You are addressing an issue that is very real for many high school students. Picking a college and a major that will lead you to a successful career is something that can determine the trajectory of your professional life. I would like to see you expand on this app idea to incorporate additional support for students during the college application process. You could incorporate a list of jobs that go along with each major or you could add a list of required college courses that you need to take for specific careers. This app idea could really help students that do not have guidance on the college admissions process to hone in on a college, major, and career path. Great work.

Nice idea for providing visibility to potential college students about majors as a factor in selecting an option to pursue.

As you iterate, it would be great to consider including information about a users interests and providing more info about what people in a specific major do to further assist in the selection. In addition, market demand for these roles and possibly a comparison of how many students compared to the demand to show potential gaps. Finally, perhaps some info about types of majors that allow flexibility to adapt as some jobs available for college graduates may not even exist during the application process.

All the research that goes into finding the right college can be very messy and sometimes very hard depending on their website. Great job exploring the idea for a college information App! I really love the idea of getting all your college information in one place, which might encourage users to look deeper into the colleges as they get interested in their programs and demographics! I would love to see you incorporate locations and student community life on the campuses listed. This would go great with some of the other information you listed in your design process! Nice work!

So well done! You did exactly what professional app developers do -- you identified real problems that aren't being resolved with current solutions. By creating an app that more easily gives users access to the information they REALLY want, you are making people's life easier. This is exactly what the best tech solutions should be doing! Your design is really thoughtful and I bet you already have a list of features that you'd like to include in the next version of this design. Your presentation is thorough and exciting to read. Great stuff!
