Screentide

About this Project

The problem in this generation is that teenagers or even adults suffer with social media addiction. They be scrolling for hours and hours and they wouldn't care so we need to take control. Social media is one of the things that people can get addicted to and this could lead to people doing bad things. People ages from 18-29 suffer with this addiction.

What the Judges are Saying

Managing screen time in a positive way is a great idea and could extend to other media like TV and video games. You might also consider a system where users earn screen time through tasks unrelated to screens—such as chores, homework, or exercise—tracked in the app.

Your wireframes provide a clear foundation, but adding more creativity to your designs could enhance them. Color and imagery can bring your vision to life, and maintaining consistent spacing and sizing for elements like buttons and text will improve usability.

Side note: My family had a similar system growing up, using raffle tickets, a coffee can, and a chore board. It’s a concept that can definitely work!
"People ages from 18-29 suffer with this addiction."
Me, almost 29 with a social media addiction: Is this app...about me? LOL

I've seen many people try to tackle this issue in various different ways, but I find Screentide pretty interesting! Answering math questions is a great way to not only delay social media time, but to incentivize people to learn! It gives people the opportunity to work a different part of their brain that may be dormant while scrolling social media. (I also personally love math, so it seems like a fun challenge!) I think this can be a great opportunity to partner with teachers and schools; it can be an easy gateway to integrating casual study time into your day. I can picture this branching out to other subjects as well.

Something to keep in mind: social media can be "bad" in great amounts, but it also helps serve a purpose.
We all use social media for different reasons, staying connected with friends, entertainment, even learning new things. I encourage you to explore this more! I think helping to provide access to healthier alternatives through your app (extra points for being a screen-free alternative!) may help people put their phone down.

Another interesting question worth looking into may be: how can you engage older audiences with your app who don't need parental monitoring? What can be some potential alternatives to this?

Props to your team for being creative problem-solvers, I hope to download your app one day!
