About this Project

For years the climate crisis been a threat to our oceans, air and, lands. Yet, many individuals doesn't take the coming doom seriously and would rather much play video games all day or be on their phones. Therefore, our project idea will have elements of education and fun tie into one app that perfectly encapsulates the viewers attention through the thrilling roads they drive on and the cars they purchased in the vehicle shop.

What the Judges are Saying

The topic of climate change is a wonderful focus for your project! The impact that humans have on the environment is growing every year and it is critical to educate ourselves and others in order to ensure we minimize the harm. At Con Edison, we are constantly looking for new ways to help the environment and we have a whole department specifically looking into the impact that vehicles have, so this was a great focus.

Taking input from your peers is an awesome first step to learning what people actually think of your topic. I also thought the use of the app Figma was a great way to showcase what you want the game to look like and test the basic functionality for the player.

I can see that you have a great background knowledge on the topic itself and have an end goal in mind for the user when they are playing. What I would love to see is more details regarding the actual gameplay of the app. This could include detailing out what the story of the game is, how is one learning about our environmental impacts through the game play, what the reward system in the game is, etc.

All in all, this was a great outline to your topic and how you would like to get your message out. I'm looking forward to hopefully playing your game soon!
Moving away from the hustle and grind of big city living, into the rural and remote countryside, has given me a great appreciation for the ways we get around. My daily commute would at times consist of a subway, bus, or even tram ride. Now, it is simply the car ride. Like many, I also drive a fuel hungry vehicle, and for work an even larger more fuel hungry vehicle. Highlighting the positive and forward qualities of renewable transportation with a game, is an excellent goal and one I can (and already do) see reaching the average commuter little by little.

I like that your team clearly put thought into designing and sketching out the concepts and game play, as that's the first step for lots of trades. A clear and researched plan is how we properly communicate with peers in the field and even at home. The facts about local health concerns at the start is another example of effective communication. Everyone has different priorities and worries. Some will think of others/their health, some have economic concerns, and so on; the list is varied and endless. Great job keeping the motivations of others in mind.

First thing I wish I had seen would be a bigger emphasis on how other modes of transport fit in the game. An electric car is of course better for the environment than a large pickup truck, and faster/more convenient than a bike, but where would the bus or train fit in? When working out the rest of the game I would consider how the player feels, and what they learn when they unlock the later vehicles.

My second suggestion would be to have concepts such as durability and speed be more than just numbers to upgrade, but integrate the effects of say, high speeds, into the game play with increased danger and risk. Durability would also have an effect as this is one the big concerns for electric vehicles; as well as other renewable energy sources such as wind turbines and solar panels. Working on wind turbines has taught me that it takes lots of maintenance and resources to repair and fix aging machines. Vehicles are no different, but the owner will see the cost first before the planet does.(Think money and health.)

All in all I am very impressed by the effort, research, and work shown. Keep it up.
