About this Project

The story unfolds through brief cuts where Bao’s panda family struggles to survive in their village due to a fast spreading illness, reinforcing the theme of selfless determination and the lengths one would go for his family. As the player progresses, they uncover lore about the Magnet Isle and Jason’s motive, adding depth to the conflict. The vibrant colors, with lush coconuts and mystical ruins, contrasts with the metallic chaos brought by Jason, visually symbolizing harmony vs. disruption. Players collect coins to support their family, dodge Jason’s magnetic attraction, and solve environmental obstacles. All actions are tied to persistence, cleverness, and resilience. Each mechanic reinforces the emotional drive behind the journey.

What the Judges are Saying

Phenomenal job!! The game is eye-popping and engaging, so it draws people in. I love the juxtaposition of the simplicity of the instructions (people aren't deterred from playing due to frustration) and the deeper meaning behind the game. It simultaneously provides a break from reality while also triggering reflection on the reality of topics such as resource scarcity and familial relations.
I am so thoroughly impressed with both the presentation and game that came from your project! The topic of environmental health and well being, along with the idea that humans can cause chaos to the environment is super important. Where I work at Con Edison, we are constantly looking for ways to ensure we are minimizing our impact on the environment.

You have clearly taken a great amount of time and care into the story for your game. Having named characters like Bao and Jason that have backgrounds and motives for what they are doing makes a player feel more connected and wanting to interact with the game. You also have a great understanding of game creation; you have not only created a game, but thought about how this game would be played by a user. Having good graphics and usable functions like a counter for the coins collected and settings for volume/music will all help with the playability.

One thing I would like to see developed a bit more would be the connection of the storyline to the topic of sustainability. The story itself is great and finding a way to expand on sustainability and the environmental impact would elevate this even more. For example, could there be other villains in later levels that represent other environmental harm?

I am truly blown away with what you have created and hope to see more of your work in the future!
