We Speak

About this Project:

Hi, our names are Tianee, Saray, Denise, & Jhamiyah. We are 7th grade student at M.S. 582. We have created an app called WeSpeak. This app is designed to help people with speech disabilities. We chose to help the people with speech disabilities because communication is important and speech apps usually have no emotion so you can’t really tell how they are feeling.

This app will assist people with speech disabilities by giving them a voice that truly represents them in gender, emotion, and region.

When we created the app, we tried to really look through the eyes of people who can’t talk or have speech disabilities and from there ask ourselves what would we like if we couldn't speak. We also have a teammate with a family member who can’t speak well.

We are happy with the way our app turned out because there are many resources and features to the app that can help people with speech disabilities socialization skills.

If we had more time to refine our app, we would like to add more to the chat room and safety features. That will happen with further updates.

These designs are gorgeous and I love the way you've laid out how this app could be fun to use! Great job identifying and relating to your users.

This is an excellent idea, and you've done a wonderful job here of thinking through all of the things that can go into building a mobile app -- whether that's accepting the terms or figuring out which features are free and which features are premium. You've clearly thought a lot about the people who would use this app, and I think it would be great to share this idea with some of them to see what they think about it.

This project could truly have some meaningful real world usage, I could really see it! Although I'd be careful about making too many of these incredible features only accessible through payment, It's interesting that you gave time to think about what the paid service would look like.

The presentation itself was very eye catching and beautifully uniform. Using the same color palette and fonts throughout. It's clear y'all really put a lot of effort into the verbiage used and the features that were designed. Good work all around!

Great concept
Maria 👏 a Parent from Ocala, Florida
I think this is absolutely amazing. First off, the fact that young students came together and think of something that benefits others is incredible. I love the fact that it doesn’t just speak for a person with disabilities, it helps them really EXPRESS how they feel. Things often get lost in text even for those without disabilities, but allowing for the emotion to be heard, is huge and wonderful. Great job.
