About this Project:

Our app was designed for the purpose of organizing the database of the South BK Mutual Aid Program. We wanted to tackle the main issue of acquiring volunteers, receiving resources, and providing easy access for those who request for aid. During interviews with the coordinator of the mutual aid program, we noticed the lack of efficient database and resources. In order to combat that, we decided to focus on those issues when developing this design.

The app itself was planned out to provide an efficient sign up process from which the user will then be directed to create their profile and then later select a few keywords such as kosher, vegetarian, etc in order to describe themselves to personalize their app use. Once that is done, the app will then provide a tour which upon completion will give the user access to requesting assistance, opting to provide resources/food, or volunteer for the mutual aid program itself.

I love this app! This is truly using technology for good. I love how much thought is placed in here. It connects communities on a different level-- it is a digital and personal connection which is difficult to create-- so kudos to you all on this! I would suggest having a way to change the views perhaps in a hamburger bar on the side in case users want a more descreet way of using the app.

Hi, Zainab, Zaki, Lucas, and Benjamin! Thank you so much for sharing this project with us. I love what you've created here. You were so thoughtful in how you approached the research process and how you talked directly to the community to see what they needed from this app and what would make South Brooklyn Mutual Aid more impactful. I would love to learn more about how you'd approach accessibility for neighbors who don't have access to smartphones or who aren't very tech savvy. I wonder—could you partner with LinkNYC or the Brooklyn Public Library? I'm excited to see this app progress!

AMAZING! This is so well thought out, researched, and socially impactfulA! I am very pleased that you all are thinking beyond the surface about your audience and the needs that members of this audience may need. I really want to highlight the focus on mutual aid versus charity aid. It shows you all have thought about the level of efficacy this service can have on the community. NICE WORK!

Very interesting concept. I thought the video did an admirable job of explaining what mutual aid is -- I myself was not familiar with the idea. The creators make a persuasive case for why such a tool is necessary. The research and interviews that were documented on the site are indicative of how attentive the creators were to community needs. Hope this idea comes to fruition and my best wishes to the creative team.
