Middle School Students from Mouse & DIIT Design League @ MS 358Q
About this Project:
This app is created to support students with mental and physical disabilities such as selective mutism, mute, and depression. Although, it can also be used as a communication device and/or an app that can assist you with your school work. As a communication service we offer an option to record your voice and send it as an alternative to typing. People who are visually impaired and have trouble locating the letters on the keyboard can just say something and send it. We also offer an option where you just have to click a button and can hover over any text on the website so you can hear it instead of reading it, this also supports visually impaired people because if they can’t read text they can just hear it.
The target group of our app are students from 7-17 years or students from grade 2 to grade 11. The projected social impact is that we want students with intellectual disabilities such as depression or selective mutism to feel comfortable to talk with others and to know that they are not alone. We also want to help students with physical disabilities such as blindness or mute people talk with others since it could be hard to communicate in real life.

Great work! I love how you all designed something to help your fellow students feel safer and better understood. That is so important, especially during this last crazy year where people were more isolated and anxious. I thought it was really interesting to see your design process and all the thoughtful questions you posed when brainstorming your ideas. One piece of feedback I have is that your target audience has quite a large age range! In future versions of your app, I'd love to see how the app might work differently for a 7 year old than it does for a 17 year old. I hope you keep working on this awesome project!

Great work! I love how you thought to make the app more accessible to the visually impaired and found ways to make that happen! You are also tackling this issue in a very unique way and providing a space for people who may struggle to communicate find other people in the same boat. Great job thinking outside of the box with this project!

I learned a lot from your well-put-together presentation. Love the design concept, and I'm even more excited about how this app gives a voice to so many people. I think the idea has huge potential to be incorporated into the schools, where students may not feel comfortable expressing themselves, or may not be able to for a number of reasons that you have carefully considered throughout your design process. How might you connect an app like this to the increasingly digital classroom of the future? Can't wait to see where you go with this project!

WOW! You have done an incredibly good job documenting your design process and showcasing your product! I am very impressed with your Figma - you've clearly done a lot of great work thinking through different user pathways and app functionalities. I also love that this app really considers the different needs of your users. I can see this app helping a lot of people. Great work!

I really like how you considered people with disabilities in the app, such as making important buttons bigger for those who are vision-impaired.
