High School Students from Mouse & DIIT Design League @ Bronx International HS
About this Project:
During the International day in our school, We did an activity which was about sharing foods from our respective cultures. We got to know about the diversity of foods which was really interesting to know But we did not know how to make it or a place where we can find those food if we want to taste it again.
It came in our mind, to create a website where everybody will have access to recipes from different countries or cultures of the world. We thought that it was a good idea to promote our foods diversification through a website and support our small businesses through our app. In addition, we create a small video to encourage and show people how to support small businesses.
Design Process:
We used our inspiration and experiences of using different apps and websites to brainstorm our website and app’s content outline.
The website is still in development. We used our design skills on Canva to create our website’s look and content as well for our app. For the video content, we use our video content creativity on scratch based on our personal experience with small businesses.
Once our design was done, we shared with our close friends for feedback and we reached out to a contact working at Google, who gave us some tips on our app and website.
We reviewed our apps and made the most edits we could during the time period allowed.

I really like the idea of combining a recipe app with something that supports local restaurants - my only question would be whether that limits the location of people who use it? I know I often come across recipes that sound interesting but I'm not sure I could do it justice, so knowing where I could get it at a restaurant is a great add-on. It looks like you can search by cuisine as well as recipe, which is smart, and I thought the idea of offering links to similar recipes is clever - especially if that links to recipes that use similar ingredients in another cuisine, to further get people to engage with other cultures.

Hi Sadia, Rafia, Samuela! I love, love, love your idea. As a cultural foodie myself, I can totally imagine myself using this platform. I think the idea itself has the potential to offer small food and restaurant businesses a much-needed spotlight to thrive. I am impressed by your teamwork in developing and presenting your ideas together across many devices and even extended into such a fun promo video! The screens you have laid out are very clear and easy to use.
I love that you can search by cuisine and recipes. Since you have those mouthwatering food photos on the detailed page, I might suggest showing some of those photos in the general search menu to make the search more visually appetizing, especially for foodies that may be less familiar with international foods.
I also love that you are using this platform to help out small restaurants with charity features, and the promo video has really helped illustrate the idea.

I was so excited to see "Bourek" in here - my mother, who is from Algeria, used to make them all the time when I was a kid! There's lots of recipe and food apps out there, but most of them are more of a blog experience. This unique take offers users the chance to celebrate the rich cultures of the world, and enjoy tasty, unique dishes from local restaurants- all with a concise delivery and crisp design - I love it! My only recommendation would be that, rather than request restaurants opt-in to your app, you might incorporate them using a service like the Google Places API (which gives you accesses to data on local businesses). That way, you can direct web traffic to these restaurants and generate click revenue from the app. Nice work!

This. Is. Incredible! The pitch and backstory are fantastic and there are so many wonderful components to this site and app. I appreciate seeing the iterations of your project and the variety of dishes you've included (and plan to include!). It's great to see the support for a network of small restaurants, while also being a place where people can learn to cook on their own. Not only is this great for people who want to learn about food from other cultures, it could help people connect with their own cultural foods. I know that recipes have been lost in my family over time and it would be great to see similar recipes that match up to my own family history that I could then reintroduce to my family now. Such inspiring work. I hope to see this app out in the world soon, with a community of foodies behind it!

I love that this is a way for people to celebrate and connect with the diverse cultures and foods in their communities. I don't think being local is limiting at all - in fact, just the opposite; they can help people get to know and connect with their local offerings in an authentic way, and travelers can do the same.

you have took such an important step through this project is what makes it innovative and helpful for lots of people out there . Not only you'll be helping people to discover the diversity of food culture and new flavors but also supporting the local restaurants. local restaurants are cheaper and they have good quality just like big world wide chains. Then why not help them to grow? it's the duty of each one of us to support various cultures and people around us which peeks through this project really well.

I love the idea of this project and its ties to the community. I feel like this aspect of your project is what really separates your ideas from existing food apps. I also loved your presentation. I could tell how much effort and collaboration it took to put together all the parts of your deck. And I really love the video you created to illustrate the impact your app could have on the community. Very well done! I'm looking forward to someday soon being able to download your app from the app store!

This project is amazing! so happy to see all the work and effort you put to develop an app which connect people, food and small businesses. It is an excellent way to share culture and be able to support those same cultures. Creating not just an app but a website and a video made it so that this project stand out as a movement from the start. Great work! can't wait to see it developed!
