Sip safe

About this Project:

Issue:

Drunk Driving

Over 32 people die due to drunk driving everyday.

Solution:

An app was designed to reduce the number of people dying from drunk driving.

This is an app that is like the Uber app but geared towards people that go out and drink.

How the app works:

When you start drinking you will press a button for a timer that will give you the amount of time you are allowed to drink. When your timer goes off the app calls you a taxi. If the bartender is connected to the Sip and Safe app, he/she will be notified to stop serving you. They will then record the amount of drinks you had, what you were drinking and close out your bill.

Driver will assist the customer and he/she will give them water if needed. They will also notify an emergency contact (if applicable) that the customer is home safe and sound. If they chose to get checked up on, they will be able to text the driver, but they will only have limited options to talk due to privacy reasons. In these slides you will go through the experience of a user, driver and bartender.

Very innovative idea! Great job tackling a very serious problem. It's terrible to think about how every one of those deaths are fully preventable. I like the idea that the user could automatically close out their bill with the bartender. This would be a very useful feature for *anyone*, even people who aren't driving at all that day! It's also an incredible idea to allow the user to choose to limit ahead of time how many drinks they will get. That could have applications to help those struggling with addiction. The pitch might be stronger if you limited your focus to these use cases first. In my opinion, these features deliver the real innovation for this project (rideshare apps like Uber already allow you to schedule a pickup time). Overall, great job and really creative idea!

Hi Yamelli and Jerson! It was truly impressive to see you both confidently pitching your ideas and demonstrating the app design in front of the camera! Congratulations on presenting your project and the remarkable job you've done. You should be proud of the learning and growth you've achieved through this experience! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ“ฒ๐Ÿ˜‰
You are change-makers, and society is going to thank you for addressing a global social issue using digital tools, apps, and community-building initiatives. By identifying a social problem in our community and designing an app to address it, you are showcasing a model for digital problem-solving solutions.
As of now, you function as a team! I encourage you to further develop your app prototype, from its design to coding, and to test how a real app would function. MIT provides an excellent resource, the App Inventor (https://appinventor.mit.edu/), which could be highly beneficial for first-time app developers. I encourage you to explore it and continue growing both as a team and as innovators in digital solutions.
I love the messages in the app: 'Please remember to treat our drivers with respect' and 'Please remember to treat your passenger good no matter what!!' ๐Ÿ’™
Furthermore, I recommend you watch some pitch videos on YouTube to hone your pitching skills. Remember, your pitch is the powerful tool for branding and marketing your solution. For reference, consider the following pitch structure:
The Hook (10 seconds)
Introduce the Problem (30 seconds)
Problem In-depth (1 minute)
Your Technology (1 minute)
Feedback and Future (1 minute)
Wrap-up (30 seconds).
Lastly, I'd like to extend my heartfelt congratulations once again. Be proud of being the creators of 'Sip and Safe'! Thanks! Keep up the excellent work and continue shaping the future. Your creativity and drive are truly inspiring.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ“ฒ

What an innovative idea that addresses an important issue! I love how much thought you put into your app, and what experiences your different users will have. It was really helpful to see your ideas come through in the wireframes. I agree with the other judges having some sort of hook or story will make your presentation come to life even more. Why is this personally meaningful to you? What would it look like for a real person to use this app? Why would someone want to use Sip and Safe, rather than call a rideshare app? A wonderful start!

I like the idea that they created a app for people that drink and drive. It's important for people to use an app when you feel like your about to get drunk, then drive.Being drunk while driving can be a danger to yourself and others. This is because you can crash into something God forbid you crash into a tree. For other people,a person can be walking, you not knowing what your doing because your drunk. So this app is important to your community.

To say I am proud of you two is an understatement. Watching you develop this project from the start to now here at Emoticon has been so rewarding as your Design League mentor and daily teacher. You guys had an idea and ran with it. You took the feedback from all that helped watch your app develop and made sure to apply it so that your app really helped a world wide problem.
Yamelli and Jerson you should be proud of your accomplishments and continue to work on this. I think it definitely has a place in our ever changing technology growing world.

I am in awe that Middle School students were able to invent an idea focusing on adults! This is way beyond their years and it impressed me. After my Dad retired from NYPD he opened a bar and there was so much more responsibility to ownership to include the patrons safety...this APP is brilliant in more ways than one! BRAVO!
