About this Project:
This timeline was designed to visually trace Chinese-American activism from its genesis to the modern day. Anti-Chinese sentiment, both on a legal and social level, has been an issue in the U.S. since the 1800s and persists even today, especially as evidenced during the COVID-19 pandemic; this events of this timeline highlight significant historical moments of activism that combatted widespread anti-Chinese sentiment. Regrettably, the study of Asian-American history in its entirety has often been overlooked within the high school history curriculum, resulting in a limited awareness regarding these people’s experiences and struggles. As Asian-American students ourselves, we have been profoundly driven by a shared aspiration to educate others on the discrimination endured by the Chinese American community in particular. Crucially, our purpose extends beyond simply shedding light on the adversity they have faced; it is even more important to underscore their collective efforts in uniting to fight and advocate for themselves.
