About this Project:
Our project is a digital map of Reconstruction era Philadelphia, with various points that are relevant to the struggle for black liberation highlighted with analysis. The points on our map explore Francis Ellen Watkins Harper and her contribution to the Black and women’s rights movements. It provides a visual picture of where this work took place and who was involved. Specifically, it shows the geographic context of Francis Ellen Watkins Harper’s life and work, locations of her speeches, the location of the Statistical Association of the Colored People of Pennsylvania, and addresses of the petitioners who signed the Statistical Association's Petition for the Colored People of Philadelphia to Ride in the Cars in 1862. To navigate the map, click on the highlighted points. The petition contains hundreds of signatures, and 100 are mapped. This project is a work in progress still, but it shows at least a sample size of the addresses and their locations in Philadelphia.

Feedback from the Judges:
I have never seen this mapping application before, I loved the way you used the tool to tell a visual story! Hovering over some of the names provides details about them, which I greatly enjoyed and encourage you to build that out for each name as you continue your work on the project. The tone of the map and the colors you selected work well for your topic.
was so impressed with the information you had on the black struggle. I think that an app that broke down all areas of the world and individual cities and provided real truthful knowledge of black history could do a lot for society as a whole.
I love when ideas can make history something fun to learn and explore! Great idea to incorporate an interactive map to help explore all these historical spots in Philadelphia during the Civil War. I'd love to see you take this visual approach with some of the other information you shared on the website! Some web quotes or other pages can help engage a visitor and makes the interactive learning something that can leave an impression on the reader. Lovely teamwork on the website!
This project was very well thought out and informative! The execution is fluid and engaging as well.
