About this Project:
My game hardboiled is a game where an egg escapes a boiling pot of water by jumping through platforms into stars to escape. The game takes a perspective such as "if it was still alive would you eat it" as the egg has eyes a mouth and can move. By putting together elements of platforming and collecting stars, the game aims to show people how our treatment of animals is wrong. After all who could harm such a cute egg. The game originally started as a challenge as apart of a game design course where we had to create a game using a random verb which was boiled. We then expanded on the verb thinking about how being boiled wouldn't be very fun and made it the main threat of the game. At the time we were reading about how billions of eggs are harvested each year so we made the main character an egg who wants to beat those odds. We then added more game like elements like double jumping and platforming to make it a fun way to save an egg from being boiled and eaten. The game was made in a short period of time however if we could work or build on it further we would add more direct messages or subtle imagery showing more of the importance of saving the egg however we also think players becoming the animal acting for survival is an interesting way to get the player to connect to the animal personally and want to treat animals better. We would also for the end of the game have the egg become a bird as it would be able to grow up and live life without being threatened by humans or boiling water.

The game was very fun! I think it presents a moral problem that's really interesting to think about.
