About this Project:
Hello judges, my name is Dahantaquan and my partner is Howard. We developed an app called Book it. Do you or anyone you know have trouble reading? Or feel as if reading is a task more than just a means of fun, well our app's purpose is to rekindle the fun for literacy and give kids or adults the ability to experience literacy even if they have trouble reading or may not want to read. We wanted to make essentially a Netflix for books while implementing an audio and translation feature. We want children or adults to have the freedom of searching books from mainstream/fanmade to forthcoming material while having the option to allow readers to listen to the book being read. As we open the app we can see that there are multiple accounts which means this can be a shared profile amongst a family of readers. Their language and account settings that we have not yet coded, but included to show what we want the app to look like.
After I select the account Me, you will be brought to a prototype homepage that has a few books that are accessible with short summaries of the book in the bottom. When you select a book and hit play you will be brought to a prototype book page that has the audio feature in the top left corner.
And that is all we have today to showcase but we'd like to express why we feel like our app is more important than the other contestants apps. We feel that an app that gives the user an option to listen instead of reading can help a bunch of kids that actually have trouble reading due to multiple reasons or don't like reading because kids equate it with testing or other reasons. We also want to change the negative perception that kids have of books and reshape that perception to start to look at books as more of a task or test then a means of fun and we feel like our app can change that.

Feedback from the Judges:
Amazing work! I love the concept for this project; it reminds me of a more youth-inviting version of Audible. I think it is so important to recognize the opportunity in creating youth-driven/centered versions of apps that are typically targeted toward adults! The layout of the book directory seems very easy to navigate, and the audio playing over the pages would be great for manga + comics. I would love to see this be fully developed. Great job!
Good job, you have the makings of a good project here.
Wonderful job! I really love that there is a feature to listen as the book is being read since some words aren't pronounced the way they are spelt, that can be very helpful to people who want to expand their vocabulary. I am interested in seeing how your team can develop it further and add more books that aren't limited to manga and comics. Overall, great work!

I really loved the concept of this app it really shows an interest in literacy and this generation's youth. As a suggestion, I would really like to see more books than just comics, but everything else I really like! Nice job.
