“Weather Wear”

Middle School Students from Mouse Design League (DIIT) at P77K
IMG 4646 1

About this Project:

Our students found a problem they deal with and have to solve throughout the school year. What do we wear when the weather changes? How do we know what is appropriate to wear in the different seasons? So, our idea for an App to help us solve that is Weather Wear! Weather Wear is an app that tells you the weather for the day and will then tell you some options of clothes you can wear based on the weather and temperature!

I love this app!! To me, it taps into a big source of joy for people... that is helping us think less about things that take up precious brain power or do less physical work so we can spend time in a more meaningful way. I can't say enough how awesome that concept is. I mean, look at all the mega businesses that are built on that principle? Self-driving cars? Robot vacuums? Artificial intelligence? It's the way of the future!

The simplicity also appeals to me. Weather wear isn't trying to multi-task. You all delivered a perfect solution for a single need. If I had a dollar for every time my sons asked me what to wear I would be able to retire tomorrow, lol.

One feature I think that would be neat would be the ability for the user to add their clothes to the app, either by photograph or typing in a name. Then the app could show the user exactly which shirt or jacket to wear. :)

Great job overall, I am so glad I was chosen to judge your amazing app!

What a great idea for an app! When the seasons change I can struggle to figure out just what to wear. Have you thought about adding in a weather report and a feature that allows a person to input what they wore in similar conditions in the past to help inform what they would like to wear? I think that might help people wear more of their closets. Your app not only impacts what users choose to wear in the weather but could also help reduce the need for fast fashion items, so you're helping address climate change! Great work!

I have definitely needed this app before. I've walked out drenched or with a sweater in the heat by accident and this would have helped. You did a thorough job thinking about different layers of dress to help your users. It would have been interesting to see why you recommended what for each weather. Give people their own information can be empowering. Overall this is a great reference to have for dressing!

Now this is an app I could really use! Every single day when I get out of bed, I open the weather app on my phone to check the temperature and whether or not it's raining or snowing. Then I have to guess what clothes would be the best ones to wear for that weather. It can be a challenge! I'd definitely love an app that could just do it for me. I really love how you took a question that nearly every person in the world asks themselves everyday ("what should I wear today?") and helps them answer it. Maybe as a next step, you could design a version of the app that uses another language, such as Spanish or Chinese, so that people who don't speak English can start using your app!
