“Time Saver”
Creators: Daisy

About this Project:
The issue that the app, TimeSaver, with the tagline, “More Support, More Resources, More Time” addresses is students' stress that is caused by piling assignments and deadlines. Most often, when students do their assignments, they would either feel inattentive, don’t understand the topic, or just don’t have the time to work on it, and this topic is essential because we, as students, want to pass our classes and get every opportunity there is, but we need to work on our assignments and time management skills would be even more essential in our future. I came up with the idea of TimeSaver by thinking of the topic, "How can we make NYC DOE schools better?"
To address this topic, I have brainstormed some ideas of challenges that a student might face with some other students. I then used that information to create a user profile based on these challenges and created questions that I would ask that user. I then created a storyboard for a closer look at how the app works with three categories, the problem, solution, and the outcome. I created a wireframe based on the storyboard and then the mock-up version of the app.
The app works by a user opening an app, and the first thing they see is a bot asking the user how they are doing. This is an opportunity for the user to open up on how they are feeling and what they are struggling with. The bot would then suggest that the user create a schedule and to click continue which would take the user to the home page. The home page would have 4 sections, one of them saying “Your Schedule” which would take them to the user’s schedule. The user schedule would include their to-do list, what they have finished, and what they need left. Another section would be the resources which would contain other apps / websites that would help the student finish their work. Two more sections are the journal for the user to choose a writing prompt and write down whatever is on their mind, and a quote for motivation that changes everyday. The bottom part of the app is like a bookmark that marks where they are, and it also has an envelope which contains news for the user based on their interests and settings of the app.

The link that says Mockup is the wireframe but with a few edits and colors. It is a closer look to how I imagine the app to look like.

It's great that you started with what you know, finding room for improvement in your current environment is a great way to hone your ability to innovate. I also loved seeing the phases of your design process. Starting with a simple mock up can help you ensure you have the basics right before getting too caught up in the details.
I'm curious if you imagine a student's schedule to be the same every day? I'd love to see more detail for how a student would fill out a schedule. Overall, you did a great job finding a challenge you see in your community and bringing a solution for it to life. Keep up the excellent work!

Hi Daisy--this is a really nice idea, and I love your empathic approach to helping kids out. (I appreciate for example that the list of questions for kids includes whether they're taking care of siblings at home, etc. Very insightful of you to acknowledge that someone's home situation can have a big impact on their schoolwork!)
The inspirational quote is a nice touch, and including space for users to journal is wonderful, and a great reminder that even though it's good to stay organized and productive, people still need time to relax and reflect and process their thoughts. Thanks for sharing this great concept--keep it up!

What a well-thought-out idea around time management (something even I struggle with!) – and it’s so impressive you followed so many essential design steps along the way … all on your own! Your deck really dives deep into your process, and by detailing each step from brainstorming to user profiles to sketching & storyboarding to wireframing and finally to a clickable prototype, you really emulated what it’s like for a professional designer to create a project through-and-through! As a designer myself, I love to see process, as it’s the most important part to any project since the journey itself helps reach a stronger outcome. Your transition from mock-up to prototype was also impressive, as you followed industry-standard practices to first draw only with blocks, and eventually convert them to iconography and more built-out visuals. I would be excited to see you incorporate some user testing into your app, generating a survey for people to take after they’ve experienced it or simply conducting some user interviews to see what people with time management issues need the most help with. Great job – excited to see you continue to push your ideas to the future

I like the app and easy to use. It would be good if it suggests affective schedules based on due dates of assignments and works.

I like how it seems like an improved version of alarms and reminders, would be very helpful to forgetful people or just anyone who wants to keep a schedule

I struggle a lot with time management and this would be a really helpful idea for me and other students who struggle.
Thank you for a record-breaking 14th anniversary event! Comments are officially closed until next year.
