“The 811X Garden Care App”
An App/Software Project
By Cesar, Jaime, Nicholas, Matt, Maida, Tyrone, Christopher, Cristofer, Justin, Jacob, Challenger, and Juan
High School Students from Mouse Design League (DIIT) @ PS 811

About this Project:
We designed a Garden App would that would be very "user friendly" and help students/staff. Our App includes a section that gives information about care for the various vegetables/herbs/and flowers that are grown in the school garden. The user would click on the name or picture of a plant and it would list basic plant care information.
Also, our App includes a section about composting in the garden. In this section the user would click on a few different screens that would list names/photos of items that can and cannot be composted. We also have a section that the user clicks on that would provide basic Garden Care Guidelines to keep the garden clean, neat and safe for all students and staff.

Feedback from the Judges:
Henry McKelvey 👏 Adjunct Professor, Computer Science at University of the Potomac — Emoti-Con Judge
Good idea! This could be useful in helping people who want to grow a garden. This can lead to neighborhood gardens, that can be used to provide organic food in case something happens.
Dipali Aphale 👏 Design Strategist (UX, Strategy, Product, Facilitation)) at IBM — Emoti-Con Judge
This is a great project and I love the idea of helping users, especially those who might not know much about plants. As you develop this in the future, perhaps try to think of ways to engage users to join the app - amazing work!
Kim Francisco 👏 East Coast - Implementation - Custom Ecommerce at Dutchie — Emoti-Con Judge
This is a great idea, I think this is definitely a beneficial tool for New Yorkers, especially with urban farming and education on composting. What I'd love to see in the future for the app:
1) where can people compost?
2) what are the benefits of composting?
3) guides and best practices on composting
4) build a community around urban farming outside school or with multiple schools
Overall, incredible job everyone! Keep it up!
